Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has traded guard/forward James White to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for the draft rights to forward Axel Hervelle. Originally drafted by the Nuggets with the 52nd selection in the 2005 NBA Draft, Hervelle has played in Europe since starting his professional career prior to the 2000-01 season.
Hervelle (6-9, 234, Belgium) has played with Real Madrid (Spain) since the 2004-05 season, helping his team capture two ACB League titles (2004-05, 2006-07) and one ULEB Cup (2006-07). Last season, he averaged 8.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 35 Spain-ACB games and 6.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 19 Euroleague games. Prior to his stint with Real Madrid, Hervelle played with RBC Verviers-Pepinster (Belgium) in the Belgian First Division (2000-04). The first Belgian player ever drafted by an NBA team, Hervelle is also a member of the Belgian National Team and participated in the 1999 European Championship for Cadets (U-16), the 2000 European Championship for Junior Men (U-18) and the 2002 European Championship for Young Men (U-20).
